Bringing you the very best of New Zealand on Youtube.
What we got up to in the longest year ever... 2020 - a look back at some epic adventures around NZ!
Despite some of the, uh, challenges of 2020 - we've had an epic year here at Overland NZ! Thanks to everyone who has supported us throughout the year - can't wait for next year!
I thought we'd have a quick look back through what we got up to over the last 12 months or so - and remember just how epic New Zealand is!
Fitting some new MAXXIS RAZR AT811s AND new wheels on our Hilux!
After 70,000kms our old tyres were pretty much done - it was time to chuck something new on. Enter the MAXXIS Razr AT811s - an aggressive all-terrain that is fairly new on the market. I also splashed out a little and got some new wheels! Pretty stoked with how it turns out.
Epic beach camp, amazing scenery, old tunnels and one slippery track - Kiwi Rd, Meremere Rd and more
Daniel sets out on three days of exploring the hidden gems in the Whanganui/Taranaki area. Between the beaches, Meremere Road (where things go a tad wrong), the "most expensive road to maintain" Kiwi Road and the other gems, it's a pretty amazing place to spend a weekend!
What recovery gear should you carry off road?
Before leaving on an overland adventure and heading off road/4wding we always make sure to pack all our recovery gear - you never quite know what you'll need or when. In this video Daniel covers what we carry with us and offers some thoughts on the gear, winches and recoveries.
Remote beaches + the old Motu Rally Stage - East Cape at its best!
With a few days spare we make a move up to East Cape - one of the more remote areas in the North Island - for an epic adventure up Old Motu Road before heading out to East Cape. Mint beaches and awesome views await.
Protecting your diesel engine - installing a diesel prefilter and catch can
You've seen this truck tackle some of the best of New Zealand - now we take a look around Scotts KZN185 Hilux Surf (or diesel 3rd Gen 4Runner) and see how he's set it up to tackle anything he throws at it while being super comfortable at camp.
A look at Scott's awesome Hilux Surf
You've seen this truck tackle some of the best of New Zealand - now we take a look around Scotts KZN185 Hilux Surf (or diesel 3rd Gen 4Runner) and see how he's set it up to tackle anything he throws at it while being super comfortable at camp.
Breaking out the tools - how we maintain our overlanding vehicle
I'm the first to admit that I'm a little bit OCD when it comes to maintenance - like knowing the Hilux has fresh oil, clean filters and is generally up to scratch. As I've mentioned before, we don't really plan our trips - knowing the truck is ready to go at a moment's notice helps make our spontaneous trips so much easier!
South Island Solo EP4 | 40+ river crossings up to Macetown + the West Coast!
The best 4wd route in New Zealand? Quite possibly! We explore the old gold mining settlement of Macetown before heading up the West Coast, stopping in at some sweet spots as we wind our way back towards the ferry in Picton.
South Island Solo EP3 | New Zealand's most dangerous road, Skippers Canyon and more
We're back out exploring! In this episode we head head through Thompsons Gorge, head up Mt Moka for a quick look before making our way over to Skippers Canyon, also know as New Zealand's "Most Dangerous Road" where we were blown away with how epic it was!
South Island Solo EP2 | Picking up the Hilux, will it start after three months?
After almost three months we're reunited with the Hilux! It turns out it hadn't been driven or started that whole time... Join us as we get it running again and hit the road south!
Behind the scenes, bloopers, the time we got super stuck and some amazing views!
Something slightly different to help get you through lockdown - a collection of clips, stories and outtakes from our trips around the country! Hope it's enjoyable - it's been pretty cool going back through old footage again!
South Island Solo EP1 | Exploring Rainbow Road, Lees Valley and the Macaulay Valley
Daniel headed south for 2 weeks of filming and exploring in the South Island - sadly COVID-19 had other ideas and forced an early retreat. Even still, he managed to get down through some amazing spots - Rainbow Road, Molesworth Station, Lees Valley and the Macaulay Valley!
VLOG | Saying goodbye to the Hilux (for now)
Daniel headed south for 2 weeks of filming and exploring in the South Island - sadly COVID-19 had other ideas and forced an early retreat. Even still, he managed to get down through some amazing spots - Rainbow Road, Molesworth Station, Lees Valley and the Macaulay Valley!
On a cliff, high above the ocean - the best of the Wairarapa beaches!
We wind our way along the southern coast of the North Island visiting some of the amazing sights and exploring the offroad tracks that hug the hills in an epic weekend trip out to the Wairarapa. Starting the day at Ocean Beach, we head along to Lake Ferry, Whangaimoana Beach then out to Palliser for an amazing night camping under the stars.
The 42 Traverse, one of New Zealand's most amazing tracks
Summer is here which means one of the best tracks in the North Island is open - the 42 Traverse, a 46 km remote route through the centre of the North Island. The track has been well graded for the 2020 season, but not everything goes to plan for one of the trucks...
North Range Road and Takapari Road - the ultimate weekend in the Manawatu!
We take our new 80 Series and the Hilux up into the hills above the Manawatu for a showdown and to explore some awesome 4wd tracks high up in the hills. Driving with views this good is pretty hard to beat!
Feldon Shelter one year on + Extended Crows Nest roof top tent review
Our Feldon Shelter roof top tent is probably the best thing we've added to our Hilux for touring around New Zealand - so we thought it was about time we did a bit of a review on our Extended Crows Nest tent.
Red Rocks - soft sand, big rock steps and mud - an epic adventure along Wellington's South Coast
We head out to Red Rocks to explore Wellington's rugged South Coast with our newest team member Scotty. Not everything goes to plan though...
